About Us
BESTWA seeks to improve the spiritual, physical and economic health of the Liberian people.
After suffering through two decades of civil unrest that destroyed the infrastructure and broke down the morale of the people, Liberia has emerged as one of the 3 poorest countries on earth. Unemployment is over 80%. There is no public water, sewer or electrical service. Many of the roads are impassable during the rainy season. The life expectancy is 39.7 years. Liberia still suffers one of the highest infant mortality and maternal mortality rates in the world.
There is good news! Liberians are a vibrant, resourceful people. In a country where there is very little, we work on the long term improvement by enabling the people to change the landscape themselves. Starting with the pre-natal and well baby clinic, through our feeding program, working with churches to set up Savings and Credit Associations, training young leaders through the Youth Leadership Conference, and to our work with the local old folks homes and orphanages, we seek to address root causes.
